Our Old Stomping Ground

Post by baloo » 20th Feb, '08, 09:58

Looks like it's had another makeover but it's not sure what it is yet. It's only the front page as the oh so pretty oh so pink lost pet section is still there in the background.

apparently as bluto says, the people who lose pets do it more so on purpose  and so don't want them back, but so what is up? He said he sold it :?:

What is up with that site? Seems like it's all over the place.

Well, they do say pets more often than not resemble their owners.

to be fair to him, he said he had to make it more of a financial thing. Which means he sold out rather than sold the site.

No, he said "the new owners". He has sold it but they seem to want him to develop the new site for them.

Canuck, I don't think it says he's launching a new chat site. He's trying to turn it into a reference/reccomendation site I think.

I know it upset a lot of folk who'd invested energy in the old site, but actually I wasn't particularly bothered as I thought it was a good thing really, one less thing to waste time on. Though I did miss the opportunity to communicate about stuff in a certain way with some people - so is nice to log back in here. And I also thought well maybe there's stuff going on behind the scenes I don't understand that has caused someone to implode.

But....

I've just checked out that old site, and reviewing the graphics and sponsor links knowing who they come from it is absolutely and abundantly clear to me that someone has been telling rather big porkies and has clearly plum gone off their. My first and last comment on the subject, doesn't deserver any further attention, probably fuels a weird fantasy going on in their frazzled head.

He's got a few "Click here" on that page. I'm assuming they are place markers for advertisers. Who knows though.

But why does it look like it was designed and programmed by underachieving tick in the armpit of a 3 toed sloth?

As you know i used to be very plugged into the lost animals world here. I can tell you that very few people pay to get their animals back and certinly not enough to fund a site. Most people seem to give up after a short period of time, some dont even bother to contact the SPCA, but is usually bcause the fecwits never put collars with number tags on them anyway because worried about making their dogs "furs" messy and the poor things are never found.

Not sure what the new site is trying to be, i find it hard to read that writing as well. There are lots of forums that deal with animals lost and found/adoption - Doggiesite.com is probably the best plus the ASD and Cat Welfare sites. I honestly cant see how they will make this work unless they couple it with a chat forum which might attract sponsors. But hard to see how this will succeed over say Doggiesite etc.

I am with Bluto, many animals that are missing are not wanted anyway esp during CNY when loads of them are booted out to make way for that nice new puppy etc.

doggiesite.com? Sounds great! Is that like some of the spamming websites we got on the other-other-board-that's-not-the-angry-board-nor-the-old-stomping-ground?

No new girlfriends for you from there FB, it really is about doggies. Great site. Recommended for all animal lovers. However after being on it for a couple of years and posting as Gila Auntie I finally got fecked off with the "what clothes to put on my doggie" threads and the "oh I lost my doggie, no collar so not to mess furs up" and nothing being done to find it. I was the Board Shrew alright! They were very pleased to see me go I think :)

Yeah, it's bizarre -- it does make me wonder who really bought the old forum then? A 5-year-old who loves experimenting with web design?

Wouldn't it be better to take it offline, and make all of these (odd) changes?
