Chips with mayo is a fine, fine thing, with one caveat: both elements need to be home made.
Or is that two caveats? And what's the plural of caveat anyway? Agh, I've backed myself into pedants corner.
Anyway, I'm a fan of The French Stall.

As a fellow pedant I've just looked it up. It doesn't say anything in my dictionary so I assume it's caveats. If we ever meet in RL, will we be wincing every time the other uses bad grammar?cromasaig wrote:Chips with mayo is a fine, fine thing, with one caveat: both elements need to be home made.

I like the French Stall too, and they're very good with mini-Scummy if you decide to take your two along.

Yep, that's the problem with admitting it. It's like hanging a sign round your neck that says "Scan everything I say/write and kick me around for my errors". (Obviously it would be quite a big sign.)
I've just noticed that I skipped an apostrophe in pedant's corner. Or should it be pedants' corner? How many pedants can fit in one corner? Does it need initial capitals?
That way madness lies.

Pedants are usually quite small, so "pedants'" seems correct unless you are talking about a particular pedant
The English noun Caveat comes from the Latin Caveat "let him beware" - third person subjunctive (yes I had to look that up) of caveo, cavere etc. So, I guess that Caveats is correct

I think he would like to be hung/hanged in the manner usually reserved for donkeys

he's hung like a donkey?

I was merely speculating on his preferences, not on his actual endowment

Re: Picotin - new French restaurant, excellent
are you saying he would like to be hung like a donkey? that's presupposing something isn't it?
Re: Picotin - new French restaurant, excellent
It presupposes that I, unlike you perhaps, have no knowledge as to his actual levels of equipment
