Do Japanese people actually write haiku? Or is it just British teenagers who are forced to at school

edit as the plural of Haiku is apparently Haiku

I would imagine they are a bit like Sudoku. I don't know any japanese who knew what Sudoku was before the big craze started a few years ago.

made Canadian kids write them too, and I think if we had to suffer so should the younger generation, look at the entertainment value, and you thought in school you'd never need to know about haiku

We never did Haiku at schoool. In fact, I'm embarassed to admit, I'd never heard of them until American friends on a message board went nuts trying to outdo each other with them, about 5 years ago.

it is three sentence poem out of japan
with a beat of syllables of 5, 7, 5 in english

Japanese make sounds
While English make syllables
Yet it makes no sense
