it snowed!

Post by chocolate » 28th Jan, '09, 23:22

very exciting

proper snow - well the most proper snow i've seen in donkey's years (i'm easily pleased) - several inches...but its threatening to turn into freezing rain which may not be so cool :)

38°C in Canberra with heavy smoke from bushfires near the coast.

we've had 17" of rain this month so far, though a couple of inches fell last night and haven't shown up on the records yet.

That is damn hot - can I be nosey and ask which bit of Oz you are in? Makes our 30 something degrees here sound positively cool.

It's a lot cooler in Sydney than this time last week. Very pleasant 28C with a bit of a breeze; think it was 38 or so last week.

The Melbourne 40s. Not only is it stinking hot but it's normally very very dry. Winding the window down whilst driving is like sticking your head in a fan forced oven.

yep, like balo said: Melbourne.

we're having 4 days of straight 40+ days: yesterday, today, tomorrow and saturday, after which we'll get a cool day of 35 and monday back up over 40... the humidity is less than 20% i think, with a strong northerly wind (straight from the desert). days like this i'm glad we have evaporative cooling rather than aircon...

have experienced this once before and that was a cool day in Death Valley...

Yeah, I had the same reaction at first, but you'll soon be moaning about the Sydney summer humidity too ;)

You've been to the Red Centre, M. Uluru has to be the hottest, dryest place I've ever been.

7.30am (post sunrise Harley tour) and it was too hot to sit outside, undercover.

edit: Oh I believe you, baloo, but not yet. It got a bit that way one day, but it was still very bearable. It's the strength of the sun (hole in the sky) that's getting me. I walk a lot more than I did in Singapore so I have to remember my factor 30+ every day.

actually, i've been there a few times and even walked around the whole bloody rock once, but the temperature was always below 40. i've been outside today and definitely would not be able to do a 3 hour walk in this weather.
