Cheap only because there are 3 construction sites going on at Balmoral Road.

Re: Moving to Singapore soon
I lived in Balmoral for years and did like it, but for somewhere so central, it is actually not very close to anything and I would not want to live there without a car

Thanks for the heads up BoD. Do you think Novena would be good with two little kids/socialising. Nice and close to everything but any nice parks or walks around there?
Re: Moving to Singapore soon
Hmm.. I have to admit that it is not really a park kind of an area. Though MacRitchie reservoir park isn't all that far down Thompson Rd, you couldn't walk it. If you want parks East Coast would be good and the park connector network is great.

I'll pipe in and suggest the Telok Blangah/Pasir Panjang Road area (I'm sure Bees Knees would agree). Around Telok Blangah you have Sentosa, Mount Faber, Telok Blangah Hill and the Southern Ridges as well as Labrador Park. Around Pasir Panjang you have West Coast Park and Kent Ridge. Both areas are VERY handy for the city.

Bishan / Ang Month Kio. Huge park, plent of playgrounds and more bang for your buck.
So…if you wish to wish a wish, you may swish for fish with my Ish wish dish.

Re: Moving to Singapore soon
Things would have changed so much in 10years that it's hard for me to picture those areas now. At least I've got a great list thanks to everyone, so can pass it over to the agent to get cracking on now:).
It's funny though cause the more I look, the more I reckon we should just go back to Cavenagh Lodge again. Slight funding problem though...but you don't know til you try! Might get 'special plice' for me;)

Just looked at Bishan and you certainly do get more bang for your buck! What's the compromise though for the cheaper rent? Bit boganish? I'm totally unfamiliar with that area.

We lived in Rafflesia for 3 years or so. Always liked it. The condo is newish and was never fully occupied so the facilities weren't crowded. You can walk to Bishan MRT or take short bus ride. Rent was a bit cheaper when we left in 2007 but 3.5K sounds ok considering the prices have gone up.sardippy wrote:Rafflesia Condo looks nice..$3.5k for a 3bed..will put it on the list

Bogan? Don't get those here, get Ah Bengs!
Bishan's quite nice. Good park (with cafes), MRT, good shopping centre, fairly close to Aussie School if you end up being here longer than you think. Quite central generally if you have a car. Where's your husband working?

At Raffles Place so it's on the same MRT line I think? Shouldn't be that far for him to go to work. Would there be many expats around Bishan do you think?Scummy Mummy wrote:Bogan? Don't get those here, get Ah Bengs!

Were there many young families around the area when you were there?Lichtgestalt wrote: We lived in Rafflesia for 3 years or so. Always liked it. You can walk to Bishan MRT or take short bus ride.

Re: Moving to Singapore soon
Yeah (not necessarily full of Aussie/British expats though), there is a school just opposite the condo.sardippy wrote:Were there many young families around the area when you were there?Lichtgestalt wrote: We lived in Rafflesia for 3 years or so. Re: Moving to Singapore soon
There are more expats than in most "heartland" areas, I think, but I imagine still predominantly local.
Re: Moving to Singapore soon
What baloo said. I didn't even know who my neighboutrs were until baby sate came along. Then I knew loads of people in my neighbourhood. It was a little like living in the country where you knew most people who pass by you. And that considering I lived in an HDB estate with hundreds in the neighbourhood.BoD wrote:Do people actually become friends/socialise with people in their own condo? Re: Moving to Singapore soon
I actually think Balmoral road is ok. Just a short walk to the main shopping centre (I used to work on Scotts road and do afternoon jogs along balmoral road). And taking the children out to orchard is easy from balmoral road as not need for trains or bus except when it rains ( I did it on the train every weekend from geylang). Lots of fountains for them to look at and trips to the toy section of shopping centre (our baby is 1 year and he enjoys thta). Plus a stop at one of the many al fresco cafes. Dont know about playgrounds or parks there.sardippy wrote:What about Balmoral Rd area? Vague memories of liking it around there... The Balmoral Spring $4.2k for a 3+1
