Rihanna
I will never buy another of her albums. Her concert was crap as she was only on stage for about 45min and now she forgives the boyfriend that beat shit out of her. Celebrities are only human and I do not expect perfection but the huge amount of money we throw at them should come with a certain amount of social responsibility attached. She is sending the wrong message to millions of young minds/fans out there.

i don't agree: whilst her choice may be unwise (she is after all only 21) we should punish and shun the abuser and not the abused...

Re: Rihanna
Agreed. She's human, she's young, it's very hard for some women to get out of violent relationships (I don't wish to have that conversation right now but you go ahead if you do) and also, we only know what we've read in the press.Morrolan wrote:i don't agree: whilst her choice may be unwise (she is after all only 21) we should punish and shun the abuser and not the abused...
Re: Rihanna
Hmmm you are right. I did not look at it from the view of her being a victim. Still, she needs to understand that with her gift to entertain comes not just the power to command large fees but also the power to set standards and influence behaviour. The way she wears her hair, what goes on her feet, the way she acts, behaviour standards she condones etc

Re: Rihanna
I am just hoping that the rumours that she has not only forgiven him but also married him (add a rumoured pregnancy as well) are just not true.

That would be a double (triple?) whammy! The whole situation is scary and sad.
Life is comprised of infinite possibilities; some known, others a mystery and destined to remain so. And what of the vast unknown, the realms beyond which knowledge has no established boundaries or parameters? Who is to say what exists or what is possible?

Re: Rihanna
Rihanna may have the scars to show some physical abuse, but I can think of many famous celebrities who go through just as much, if not more damage due to mental and/or emotional abuse.
Should we boycott their albums & performances too ?

What is Rihanna? Is it some screechy 'diva'? Is it important?

What's worse, someone who shows forgiveness to another persons misdeeds, or someone who has gone back on vows made supposedly for life?

Sometimes you have to break vows before they break you, Bob.
Re: Rihanna
I don't know, maybe she's just given every mother (and father) with a teenage daugter (or teenage son, really) the perfect opportunity to have a very serious conversation about what is and what is not acceptable in dating scenarios. Sometimes nothing but true, real life 'examples' are the only thing that get kids to understand the importance of things.

Fair call. In which case, let he who is without sin throw the first stone. Everyone has some shit moments in their life. Not all of us can make the right choice.Kooky wrote:Sometimes you have to break vows before they break you, Bob.

Re: Rihanna
I just always assume that the lives of extremely famous pop people have absolutely no grounding in reality whatsoever. They create their own reality, surrounded by Yes People, and operate in a world so completely divorced from what goes on in real people's lives that they can't possibly serve as any worthwhile role model. MJ, Prince, Britney, Jessica Simpson, Rihanna. They're all out of their minds. Some just have better publicists.
A woman walked into a pub and asked the barman for a double entendre. So he gave it to her.
